Who is behind Gentle Pilates?
Gentle Pilates is taught by Angela, a physiotherapy-trained Pilates instructor who works one to one in Singapore and is opening a private studio in Adelaide, Australia. She studied physiotherapy in Australia and worked in hospitals and private practice before qualifying across the full Pilates repertoire on every apparatus. Angela specialises and focuses on one to one private pilates, and she takes clients from rehabilitation right through to advanced work.
FOUNDER STORY
From Physiotherapy to Pilates: How Gentle Pilates Began
Angela trained as a physiotherapist in Australia and spent years in hospitals and private practice before finding her way back to the body through Pilates.
Where it beganShe loved the thinking, just not the four walls.
Physiotherapy in Australia, then years in hospitals and private practice. How bodies work always fascinated her: how an old injury spreads, how one tight hip changes the way a person walks. Spending every day in the same small physiotherapy room, repeating the same treatments, never did though.
So she went exploring beyond the rooms.
The years in betweenShe stepped away, and built something of her own.
A fashion label gave her what the clinic couldn't: something to create, and a reason to travel. On one of those trips she met her husband. She closed the fashion business, packed up her life in Australia and moved to Singapore.
It was a bigger change than it looked, and for a while she wasn't sure what came next.
Where it leads todayA practice in two cities, Singapore & Adelaide
Pilates gave Angela the movement she had missed, and somewhere to use the clinical reasoning she had trained for. Today she teaches one to one private pilates only, in Singapore and soon in Adelaide, taking clients from rehabilitation all the way through to advanced work.
Physiotherapists refer their own clients to her, and she has yet to refer one back out.
How she found PilatesPilates is what steadied her.
She took her first course in July 2023, mostly for herself, and was teaching within the month. Six months later her calendar was full, with a waitlist. Within two years she had completed every level, on every apparatus: reformer, cadillac, chair, barrel and mat.
WHY CHOOSE PRIVATE SESSIONS
A session centred around you.
In a private session, Angela gives you her full attention, tailoring the hour to your needs. Here’s what that means for you.
The hour is yours
She works with how your body feels that day, not a plan written last week. If something aches this morning, the session changes.
Nobody is watching
No front row, no keeping up, no feeling a step behind. For many clients it's the first time exercise hasn't felt like a test.
From your first session to advanced work
Many treatments end once the pain does. Here, that's often where the best work begins, and most clients stay with her from rehabilitation through to advanced.

FAQs
The questions people ask about Angela.
-
Angela is the founder of Gentle Pilates and its only instructor. She studied physiotherapy in Australia and worked in hospitals and private practice before moving to Singapore and qualifying across the full Pilates repertoire. She teaches one to one in Singapore, is opening a private studio in Adelaide, and writes the online programmes herself.
-
She trained as one, and worked in hospitals and private practice in Australia. At Gentle Pilates she teaches Pilates, not physiotherapy. She doesn't diagnose conditions, carry out clinical assessments or use physiotherapy treatments like manual therapy. What her training gives you is the reasoning behind every exercise she picks.
-
Physiotherapy training in Australia, then full Pilates certification across Levels 1 and 2, essential through to advanced, on every apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrel and Mat. She finished the whole repertoire within two years of starting in 2023, and she receives referrals from practicing physiotherapists.
-
The difference is what happens before the exercise is chosen. A physiotherapy background means the session is built on an understanding of biomechanics, injury and healing rather than repertoire alone. So the reason for each movement, and the order they come in, is reasoned rather than routine.
-
She started training in July 2023 and was teaching within her first month. She was fully booked with a waitlist inside six months, and has worked with local and international clients ever since, taking many of them from rehabilitation right through to advanced repertoire.
-
Angela’s regular sessions are one-to-one or upon request, one-to-two for those who prefer a private session with a partner or friend. Group classes are held during private events and retreats.
-
Yes, and it is one of the most common worries people arrive with. Flexibility is not a requirement, it is often one of the things you are here to work on. The first session starts with basic exercises so she can see how your body moves before anything is built on top of it.
-
Often, yes. Lower back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, disc injuries, post-operative recovery, scoliosis, hypermobility, pelvic floor dysfunction and pre and post-natal are all regular reasons people come to her. She works alongside your medical team rather than replacing it, so bring any advice you have been given.
-
In Australia, where she grew up, studied physiotherapy and worked clinically. She began her Pilates training after moving to Singapore in 2023 and completed every level on every apparatus within two years. She is now opening her own private studio in Adelaide, South Australia.
-
Yes, and it is one of the most common ways people start with her. The first session teaches the foundations alongside basic exercises at whatever pace suits your body. Nobody is asked to keep up with anyone, and nobody is made to feel foolish for not getting a movement first time.
Ready for a body you can stop worrying about?
Standing up from your desk without that first stiff moment. Picking up your child without bracing for it. Noticing a muscle you did not know had switched off. Most people spot the change in small, ordinary moments long before they would call themselves strong.
